The categories are pretty self-explanatory, but not all of the stories under each category are the same in length, context, and so on.  Browse around until you find something you like.  Keep in mind that I update additions to this site often, and if you don’t like something now, you may find something you like later on.  Writing is always work in progress no matter how concrete it seems.  I like to also branch out in different areas to cover a lot of ground.  Future work may surprise you as to what I am doing currently.  I like to write on military nonfiction and science fiction, but I will write in many other fields as well.

You may notice that many of my stories pertain to war.  It is a theme I use, but not the underlying idea (I won’t give that one away so easily).  A few of my stories directly relate to mental health, and if you would like to utilize my writing to help others, I am all for it.  I ask that you don’t sell it or attempt to gain any profits from usage of any of my writing.

Feel free to ask any questions or leave a comment here or on my Facebook page.  I will get you an answer or respond as quickly as possible.

My thought process:

Suicide in the warrior community is a huge problem.  Many people do not know that over 17% of all suicides reported from the most recent data (2014) were from the military/veteran community.  You may think that number is not significant, but that 17% comes from a group that only makes up 7% of the population.  That’s right, 7% of the population has 17% of all suicides.

I have lost many friends and family members to suicide.  I will continue to write stories that show the true impact and influences of mental health.  It isn’t fair to sugarcoat the issue just so some people don’t get upset. It should make you upset.  It’s supposed to be disturbing.  We live in a “me” world today. Everything is jaded, marketed, celebrated, and diluted.  My work isn’t about you or me.  My writing is for them; those that struggle; those that hurt; those that have lost or continue to lose; those that can’t find the words; those that can no longer speak.

Life is one struggle to the next for many people.  It doesn’t have to be that way, but that is the reality for many. Know you are not alone.  There are many great organizations that will see you through. Get involved with your local community.  Find out what is around you.  You don’t have to be a warfighter to get help or help others.  If you are a veteran and you need assistance, contact your local VA medical center (I know that isn’t what you want to hear), but not just by calling their regular line and getting lost, have them put you through to a Post Deployment Clinic or Patient Advocacy person to help guide you to the right place.  Each county also has a person that helps out with this on staff, just call your county/parish government and ask for the VA rep.  They mainly help with compensations for disability, but they can be more plugged in locally.  If all else fails or you are unsure on those routes, ask me.  Don’t become a statistic.  Take one day at a time; one foot in front of the other.

  1. Jeremy i have heard all kinds of retoric about your situation on the internet. I too am a combat veteran with ptsd. I would like you sir to help your fellow vetetans wrap our minds around this situation. If you care to share!

  2. Hey Jeremy, my name is Bob, Dan Fordice’s brother-in-law. I met you at whitewatergate last month. I finally had a chance to read some of your stuff, and it is good. You use good details and capture the feel of your subject, the emotion, but you do a good job of keeping some distance so it doesn’t get sentimental. Thank you for your service, and for sharing that experience with the rest of us. We need to hear it. Keep up the good work! Blessings.

On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.
